Rock God Cred Report:

Click here to check John Mellencamp’s “If I Die Sudden (Live Radio Edit)”…from the great live companion cd to the studio version of “Life Death Love, and Freedom”.  Mellencamp is definitely in his element when he’s on stage.  The live versions of “Longest Days”, “My Sweet Love”, and “A Ride Back Home” are true gems.  Hopefully this becomes a trend, and John will release more live companion cd’s with his classics from the past “Scarecrow, Uh Huh, Nothing Matters, American Fool, and Lonesome Jubilee”.  A nice touch!

DVD Review: Iron Maiden “Flight 666”

Posted in Notable News, Record Review, Tunes at 5:36 pm by The Snob

iron maiden flight dvd coverRock God Cred Report:

Ah yes…summer of 1982.  The concert was a Bill Graham “Northern California” staple “Day On The Green”.  Outside at the Oakland Coliseum ( where the A’s and the Ray-dahs played) Iron Maiden was on the bill with Loverboy, Foreigner, and The Scorpions.  Maiden had a few minor hits on US radio, but I was there to see the Scorps.  No expectations.  Having read my Circus and Hit Parader Magazines I knew what to expect…one bad ass bass player, dual guitars, and a singer with a big rock voice.  The lads didn’t disappoint…hell they even brought out the big, pissed off, skeleton mascot “Eddie”.  They opened the concert so they really didn’t have the time to dig in.  Enjoyable though.  I will have to post some of the pictures that I took of the show if I can find them.

I had not thought about that show in years…until I sat down the other day to watch the new Iron Maiden “Flight 666” double disc DVD that was just released.  A fabulous “rock doc” of Iron Maiden doing a special 23 date, “World Slavery 2008”  tour.  They flew on their own monster jet…dubbed “Ed Force 1”, and it was piloted by singer Bruce Dickinson.

The lads hit cities that normally were not on the radar for tour dates in countries (Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Mumbai, etc).  The reaction to the band in these countries was quite stunning.  What we take for granted in the US (seeing a multitude of rock shows) is a privilege, and a dream for these adults/kids.  The documentary has plenty of behind the scenes  interviews with the band, and the fans.  You see the love for Iron Maiden, and Maiden’s love for their fans. Plus the pressure to deliver a show worthy of this over the top obssesion by the fans from around the world.

The rabid fans will be pleased to find disc 2…a full live concert with all of the key Iron Maiden classics.  The concert is pieced together from 16 different cities.  The stage show is great, the sound is even better.

Check the tracklist: 1) Churchill’s Speech, 2) Aces High, 3) 2 Minutes to Midnight, 4) Revelations, 5) The Trooper, 6) Wasted Years, 7) The Number of The Beast, 8) Can I Play With Madness, 9) Rime of The Ancient Mariner, 10) Powerslave, 11) Heaven Can Wait, 12) Run to The Hills, 13) Fear of The Dark, 14) Iron Maiden, 15) Moonchild, 16) The Clairvoyant, 17) Hallowed Be Thy Name

Buy Iron Maiden’s “Flight 666” DVD…I thoroughly enjoyed this double disc set.  A must for any follower of the band young or old!
