gregg rolie rain danceRock God Cred Report:

Legendary Santana & Journey founding member, and Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Gregg Rolie has released a limited edition CD of his band in concert in 2007.  On this 12 track CD, the Gregg Rolie Band whip up a blistering performance featuring all the beloved Santana hits, as well as tracks from his 2001 critically acclaimed solo cd “Roots”, and few new songs.  The track list includes live takes on “No One to Depend On”, “Jingo”, “Evil Ways”, “Black Magic Woman”, “Soul Sacrafice”, and others.

Buy Gregg Rolie’s live digital album “Rain Dance”…great musicianship, and that very recognizable voice.

Click here to check an old (Pre- Steve Perry) Journey tune “On a Saturday Night”…I diiiiiiiiig this tune still!  Essential Gregg Rolie vocals on this one.

DVD Review: Rob Thomas “Something To Be Tour”…Live at Red Rocks…Plus Check Matchbox 20’s “3 a.m. (Acoustic Version)”

rob thomas something to be live at red rocksRock God Cred Report:

Strict concert action from Rob Thomas (of Matchbox 20).  This new DVD is taken from his “Something to Be Tour” in 2008.  A little weird seeing Thomas out there by himself with a load of back up musicians…Thomas is not the crazy showman.  I missed seeing Rob Thomas with the rest of Matchbox 20.  They filled the stage as a band, have history, and a little more warmth to the music when they played live.  Make no mistake,  Thomas’  sidemen can play up a storm.  I guess it’s just a matter of preference.

What I did like were the re-workings of the Matchbox 20 classics.  “If Your Gone” gets kicked up a few notches, and “3am” is pulled back.  Both versions work well.  The Santana collaboration “Smooth” gets a slow  acoustic burn to it…nice twist to a song that had been run into the ground by radio.  The other hits are money as well “Ever The Same”, “Bent”, a cover of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance”, and “Lonely No More”.  Thomas doesn’t disappoint his audience.  The new tunes get loud applause, but the M20 classics get the singalong treatment by everyone.

I became aware that Mr. Thomas must be the “chick magnet”, because the audience was predominently women…with a few boyfriends/husbands that were tagging along.  Hey single dude out there…yeah…I’m talking to you.  Go see Rob Thomas or Matchbox 20 when they come to a town near you.  I think that is a destination for many “girls night out” gatherings.

Buythe DVD “Rob Thomas-Something to Be Tour (Live at Red Rocks)”…nice batch of tunes here.  Hell…I even blew the dust off of my  Matchbox 20 cd’s.

Click here to check Matchbox 20 “3a.m. (acoustic)”.  Nice acoustic take on a great tune.  This isn’t from the DVD.
